Our Good Work

  • 2015 to 2017 – Time for Play! In early 2015, MCCF began exploring the many facets of tackling an upgrade of playground equipment in Superior’s popular Eva Horning Park. After meeting with parents, grandparents, kids, teachers and town leaders, MCCF voted to take the lead in coordinating the effort, including seeking donations from individuals, businesses, building contractors (for in-kind services during construction), and writing grant applications to raise money to purchase the equipment. In 2015-2016, MCCF granted $10,000 towards the fundraising goal of $100,000 to purchase playground equipment. With hundreds of volunteer hours from Board members and community members, and many cubic yards of engineered wood chips from Tricon Timber, the playground was completed in November, 2016.

We have also contributed funding to the PEAK Foundation of Alberton to improve upon and install a skate-park in Hank Roat Memorial Park. We will continue to work with the PEAK Foundation to see Alberton continue to improve their outdoor places and help their youth pay for college.

  • In 2018, we helped build an addition to the St. Regis Community Center: Board member Glenn Koepke spearheaded this project. The Addition allows volunteers to store, sort, and package commodities for distribution to Mineral County residents. MCCF contributed $2,000 for materials and labor.

  • In addition to our contribution for the Commodities program, we were able to make a $500 donation to the County Food Bank.

  • Scholarships

Since 2006, MCCF has awarded scholarships to Mineral County students, annually, MCCF awards three $500 scholarships to high school seniors from each School District. From the County-wide list of applicants, a $1,500 scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates overall excellence, with a greater emphasis on volunteerism and community service. In 2018, the Board elected to add a $500 scholarship to an aspiring high school junior as an incentive to seek a college degree.

MCCF supported a $500 scholarship annually to a student who applies to the MedStart program, where he or she spends a week shadowing various health professionals. The MedStart program was recently discontinued but we are hopeful that this program will be funded again so that we may help more Mineral County Students to preview a career in medicine.

  • Since 2006, MCCF has awarded grants to Mineral County non-profits. Although our main focus on grants has shifted, we will still entertain applications for grant funding.

  • 2000 to 2019 – Old Schoolhouse Rock Car Show: Another significant endeavor for MCCF was the planning, organizing, fundraising, and successful completion of an all-volunteer Car Show in Superior. The annual Old Schoolhouse Rock Car Show is held the first weekend in June, and brings in up to 115 beautiful classic and street rod cars for the enjoyment of locals and travelers alike. Additionally, vendors, and old school rebuilt RVs have joined the fun. The net proceeds supported the scholarship program of MCCF.

  • In May, 2013, MCCF hosted a Non-profit Expo, a first for Mineral County. This day and a half event brought representatives from 32 non-profits together in St. Regis to learn from experts about how to recruit volunteers, write grants, fundraise, and build capacity to further goals. The networking among attendees was a valuable benefit that will continue to see results well into the future. MCCF was awarded a grant from the Montana Community Foundation to help host the Expo, and MCCF successfully matched the grant by 2:1 to build the endowment by more than $5,000.
